On May 13, 2016, the “EPES AVENGERS“ team attended the Greensboro, NC Relay for Life led by the American Cancer Society. During a Relay event, participants and survivors celebrate what they’ve overcome and also recognize and celebrate caregivers who give time, love, and support to their friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers facing cancer. They remember those lost to the disease and honor people who have fought or are fighting cancer. The Epes team exceeded its goal of raising $2,000 during this event. It raised $2,090.
Miracle League of High Point provides opportunities to all children with special needs to play baseball regardless of their abilities. On April 23, 2016, Epes Transport volunteers had the opportunity to experience the joy of assisting children with special needs to play baseball.
All the volunteers are part of the “buddy” system. Each buddy is assigned to a player to help assist and protect them at all times while on the field. This is a life-changing experience for not only the players and parents, but for the volunteers who get the privilege to be a part of these special moments for the children. For more information on the Miracle League, please view their website @ www.hpmiracleleague.org.
Thanks to all the employees and their families who participated in this volunteer event on April 23rd.
Epes has partnered with Guilford County Child Development Food Pantry in distributing food for those in need. On April 14, 2016, members of our Employee Relations and Community Outreach Committee participated in unloading and distributing boxes of food to service families in the community.
Epes is committed to giving back and making a difference in our community.

On March 22, 2016, Epes Transport had the pleasure of hosting an onsite career day event for 44 area high school students from Weaver Education Center, a vocational/technical school located in Greensboro, NC. The event focused on providing information about our operation, career opportunities, continued education and details about our Maintenance Apprentice Program. Students had an opportunity to hear from key members of the maintenance team; discuss questions with floor technicians and subject matter experts; get a firsthand look at our diagnostic process, preventative maintenance duties and tire/trailer shop operations; and climb into a new Freightliner truck and trailer to get a personal look at what our drivers and technicians see on a daily basis.
The overall feedback was positive from the students, their instructors and Epes personnel. Epes continues to be committed to devoting time and attention to our youth by providing insight on career opportunities available within the transportation industry.
The Epes Transport, Inc., Employee Relations Community Outreach Committee has partnered with Guilford Child Development to participate in their lunch buddy program at McElveen Child Development Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. Four to five committee volunteers interact with children ages one to four during their lunch period and assist with the children as needed. Volunteers will participate in the lunch buddy program every two to three weeks from 11 am to approximately 12 pm. Epes is excited about the partnership and being able to give back to the community.
The Employee Relations Committee at Epes Transport has elected to put together care packages for actively deployed military family members of our employees (e.g., children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, parents). We will be taking donations for items that are listed below at all manned terminals and on-site facilities.
The Epes terminals will be the collection and the distribution sites for the boxes. Care packages will be placed in small, shoe-size boxes. Collections began April 14, 2016 and will continue through April 15, 2016. Our goal is to have the boxes available for Memorial Day distribution.
Driver managers will be responsible for providing to Human Resources a count of the boxes needed for their fleets. Each manager of non-driver employees will be responsible for a count of the boxes needed in their respective departments. Epes will not mail out the boxes to the military family members, but will have the boxes available to our employees to take and distribute accordingly by May 15, 2016.
The below items will be collected:
Snacks (e.g., chips, pretzels, nuts, protein bars, etc.) individually wrapped or in small bags
Candy and gum (please avoid chocolate)
Small note pads
Flavor water powder (e.g., MiO Fit or Crystal Light)
Magazines (e.g., Sport Illustrated)
Points of contact for the donations: Tina Valois in Greensboro, NC and Denise Howell in Rockwall, TX. You may also contact Tamara Anthony in Human Resources with questions.
