This document is to inform you that you will be required to successfully complete an evaluation road test on your first day of orientation. We realize that based on previous driving experience, you likely possess and demonstrate the skills necessary to successfully complete the evaluation road test. The evaluation is intended to validate that you have the necessary skills and our goal is to assist with a smooth transition to Epes.
The following items will result in a failure of the evaluation road test:
- Incomplete pre-trip inspection
- Inability to safely couple the tractor to the trailer
- Damage to the tractor or trailer while coupling or uncoupling
- Unit separation as a result of improper coupling procedure
- Refusal to fasten seatbelt after being told by the evaluator
- Involvement in a preventable collision during the evaluation
- Receiving a moving violation of any kind during the evalutaion
- Failing to yield to other traffic resulting in running a vehicle off the road
- Shifting on a railroad track before the entire unit has cleared the tracks
- Running a red light
- Rolling through a stop sign
- Erratic traffic behavior
- Failing to yield to a pedestrian
- Exceeding any posted speed limit by more than 5 mph
- Exceeding posted entrance/exit ramp speeds by any amount
- Blowing a tire and/or bending a rim as a result of hitting a curb during a turn
- Blatant tailgating (after the evaluator has brought it to the driver's attention)
- Initiating any "road rage" behavior
- Inability to execute a required backing maneuver
- Hitting something or being stopped from hitting something by the evaluator while backing
- Inability to climb into/out of the tractor/trailer
- Inability to handle a manual transmission
- Inability to open/close trailer doors
- If for any reason, it is necessary for the evaluator to take over control of the unit
- Other behaviors, that are unsafe in the judgment of the evaluator
Keep in mind that the evaluator is there to assist and advise when necessary.
