Keep Your Business Moving While Reducing Environmental Impact

Epes Transport System recognizes that responsible logistics means prioritizing sustainability. Through our partnership with Penske, we’re invested in and committed to decarbonization in logistics operations and driving innovation that benefit businesses and the environment.

When you work with Epes, you gain Penske’s resources and networks as well as decades of combined experience. Together, we’ve led the charge in developing sustainable transportation solutions. By investing in energy-efficient technologies and more environmentally responsible strategies, we’re making strides toward lowering the logistics industry’s carbon footprint while keeping supply chains moving forward.

Our integrated approach to decarbonization includes:

Vehicle Maintenance

Vehicle maintenance is vital to maximizing fuel efficiency and extending the life of trucks. Epes leverages advanced telematics to track vehicle performance, schedule service at optimal intervals and prevent unnecessary wear, helping businesses reduce costs and environmental impact.

Route Optimization

Reducing empty miles and optimizing routes cuts emissions and improves fuel economy. Our comprehensive logistics analysis uncovers opportunities to consolidate loads, minimize empty miles and maximize truck utilization, all while reducing driver hours. Streamlining routes and reducing time spent in traffic help our customers save on fuel

Driver Development and Safety

Empowering drivers with knowledge and tools to improve fuel efficiency is crucial to sustainable logistics. Epes provides pivotal training on best practices that reduce fuel consumption and enhance overall performance.

We also employ event-triggered onboard cameras that analyze driving patterns, such as speed, idling and route selections, to help operators make real-time adjustments boost efficiency and safety.

Staying Ahead of Evolving Regulations

Navigating ever-changing emissions regulations can be challenging for fleet managers. Epes’ knowledgeable team takes the guesswork out of regulatory developments by tracking industry requirements, handling necessary paperwork and ensuring that vehicles meet all current and upcoming federal, state and local mandates.

Fuel Efficient Equipment

Fuel efficiency is paramount to reducing carbon footprint and helping to decrease our environmental impact. We are making several investments to achieve these goals. In 2024, Epes decided to upfit all new sleeper units with Auxiliary Power Units (APUs). We have also implemented technology that minimizes idle times and extends run times. Epes is sensor piloting sensor hub technology and tire inflation systems to increase fuel efficiency.

Powering the Future With EV Infrastructure

We have deployed electric yard tractors which eliminate tailpipe emissions and have longer life spans than their diesel counterparts.

To support the transition to electric fleets, Epes is partnering with Penske Energy LLC, a joint venture between Penske Transportation Solutions and ForeFront Power. This initiative delivers accessible EV charging infrastructure that helps commercial fleet operators integrate electric vehicles into their logistics operations.

From infrastructure planning to implementation, Penske Energy equips businesses with reliable and responsible solutions that decarbonize and keep businesses in motion.

Awards and Partnerships

Epes has been a proud partner of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay Transport Partnership since 2007 and a 2018 Greenfleet honorable mention.
