Epes Partners with Truckers Against Trafficking
Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) is a non-profit organization that seeks to assist law enforcement with the recovery of sex trafficking victims and the apprehension of perpetrators. Epes is partnering with TAT to assist in their efforts in reuniting trafficking victims with their families and removing perpetrators from the streets. There are over 50 million victims of human trafficking globally, and disproportionately the majority of those victims are women and young girls. Truckers are in a unique position as the eyes and ears of the road to save countless victims of human trafficking due to their numbers, travels, and the nature of their jobs. Activities and behaviors that could indicate sex trafficking include:
- A van/SUV with one male and a number of (young) females
- A young girl walking into the shower area with a male
- Young girls walking from truck to truck
- Truck drivers flashing their lights to signal as a buyer for sex
Fortunately, with TAT's reach and tremendous partners, they have trained over 1,457,576 people with their training thus far. From the last 5 years, over 41 percent of the cases truckers have reported involved victims that are minors. This issue is very prevalent in our communities, and Epes is taking a stance to bring awareness within the organization and provide associates with the tools to bring attention to this illegal activity.
