Here at Epes Transport we have many approved Truck Driving Schools that you can get your start as a professional truck driver. The information is located on our website the schools that are available to you.
Before you move forward in deciding to become a professional driver, you have to do a gut check and decide if this lifestyle for you and conducive to your home life and will your family be the support channel for you while you are out on the road. This is not a JOB.....it is a lifestyle change. I discuss this with all my trainee candidate's before we move with the hiring process. You have to be discipline, observant, safety conscientious , patient, good physical health and other prominent characteristics of a professional driver. You have to have positive family support channel and you have to learn plan weeks in advance. Sounds challenging right? As much as this may sound like a challenge, however it can be rewarding in many aspects.
Before you decide you want to embark on this journey, do your research of the trucking school you may want to attend. Review their curriculum, the cost of the training, how time it will take to complete, and finally talk to former students before you decide on a school. Many truck driving schools are for profit but they are many schools that are offered through your local community colleges or the motor carrier provides the training (Contract of course). Be careful of any school that states you can be a professional driver in 2 weeks. That's why at Epes Transport we make sure the school we approve is producing qualified trainee's. There is no way you can learn to be a professional driver in 2 weeks. Make the sure school uses the standard of the Professional Truck Driving Institute.
As a recruiter, I want all of you to be successful in becoming a professional driver. And I hope these tips help you find the right school for you. My veteran drivers out there please post some other good tips or ideas for our trainees. Thank you
